GREENWICH — The police division is mourning the lack of a retired police lieutenant, identified for his “wonderful investigative work,” who died final week.
Lt. Edward Joseph Duff, who spent 24 years on the Greenwich police drive, died on Dec. 8. He was 94.
Duff, who was born in Greenwich on July 2, 1927, served within the U.S. Military as a sergeant from 1950 to 1952 with the Navy Police in Korea and Japan, police mentioned. Earlier than that, he spent two years as a seaman within the U.S. Service provider Marines.
He joined the police division on July 1, 1953. He was assigned to the patrol and site visitors divisions.
On Jan. 17, 1965, Duff was promoted to the rank of detective. He served in that capability for over 5 years earlier than he was once more promoted to sergeant of the patrol division on Aug. 10, 1970, after which to the rank of lieutenant on March 19, 1972.
“His personnel file displays wonderful investigative work over time,” police mentioned. “Letters from residents and official commendations cite his many companies to the city in clearing burglaries, larcenies, auto thefts, assaults and robberies.”

He retired April 1, 1977. Each of Duff’s sons went on to be Greenwich law enforcement officials.
Police mentioned a celebration of life for Duff might be held at a later date.
