Bolivian soldier who executed Che Guevara dies

The Bolivian soldier who executed Ernesto “Che” Guevara greater than 50 years in the past died this week on the age of 80.

Mario Terán, a part of a navy group that captured the Argentinian-born revolutionary in 1967, succumbed to a long-term sickness and is survived by his two youngsters and his spouse, in response to The Guardian.

“[Terán] merely complied together with his obligation as a sergeant of the military,” retired common Gary Prado, who reportedly led the group, informed Radio Compañera, The Guardian reported.

Terán had stated he was solely following orders when he killed Guevara, who had been on the run from Bolivian authorities.

“It was the worst second of my life,” he reportedly informed journalists later. “I noticed Che giant, very giant. His eyes shone intensely. I felt him coming over me and when he mounted his gaze on me, it made me dizzy …”

“‘Calm your self,’ he informed me, ‘and purpose effectively! You’ll kill a person!’ Then I took a step again towards the door, shut my eyes and fired,” Terán added.

Guevara was a key participant within the Cuban Revolution, serving to to finish the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. He later fought for revolutionary causes in each Africa and South America.
