Driver survives fall off Highway 1 cliff south of SF

A driver touring south on Freeway 1 close to Pacifica went over a cliff and into the water Thursday morning and survived, officers stated.

Cal Fireplace stated that the driving force is in “steady situation.”

The incident occurred at Satan’s Slide south of the Tom Lantos Tunnel, which is about 11 miles south of San Francisco, at 8 a.m., Cal Fireplace and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Workplace stated. The freeway was briefly closed on the scene of the incident and reopened simply after 9:30 a.m.

The sheriff’s workplace stated the driving force misplaced management of the car and went over the facet and into the water beneath.

“It feels like it could have been slick on the market and his tires got here out from below him and he overcorrected,” Lt. Eamonn Allen with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Workplace advised KCBS.

The driving force extricated himself from the car and climbed again onto the cliffs, the sheriff’s workplace reported.


A California Freeway Patrol officer got here to the rescue when he seen contemporary skid marks on the freeway. The officer appeared over the cliff the place he noticed the car within the water and the driving force clinging to rocks beneath the highway.
