Shropshire MP joins calls stop “astronomical” increases in cost of heating oil

North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan has co-signed a letter with three of her colleagues calling for the vitality worth cap to be prolonged to residents who’ve their heating oil delivered.

The letter claims that previously fortnight heating oil costs have greater than doubled from an already excessive 66.74 p per litre to 148.25p per litre.

Ms Morgan tweeted: “We’re going through an off-grid gas disaster. I’m proud to have co-signed this letter with my rural colleagues.”

The letter, despatched to enterprise secretary Kwasi Kwarteng and copied to Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak, requires ministers to “urgently instruct” Ofgem to increase the vitality worth cap to cowl heating oil.

They are saying that 1.5million primarily rural households are at present unprotected in opposition to rises.

“As rural MPs we’re all too conscious of the various extra each day prices that our constituents face in comparison with their city counterparts,” says the letter.

It has been co-signed by Lib Dem MPs Ms Morgan, Jamie Stone, Alistair Carmichael, and former social gathering chief Tim Farron.

“Lots of our off-grid constituents are already being pressured to make the selection between heating or consuming as would be the case throughout the UK,” the letter provides.

“They should be afforded equal safety from these devastating will increase.”
